An excerpt from chapter 5:

Classy Red coupe

I was fortunate that my new wife wasn’t threatened by my parallel love of fast sporty cars. As long as we could pay the bills, she was okay with my car passion indulgence. So, she bought into the idea of a Corvette coupe as a beginner’s family car. There was sufficient room behind the bucket seats to put an infant carrier.

As my wife’s pregnancy progressed, watching her get in and out of the Corvette coupe provided me with a mixture of entertainment and sympathy. Clearly, providing viable transportation to very pregnant women was not likely on the minds of the Corvette design engineers or myself. But, on the flipside, when the day came that we needed to get to the hospital NOW, we definitely had the right car. However, when the time came to put the infant seat with a baby in the storage area behind the bucket seats, the concept of family car seemed somewhat of a stretch. A bit of panic set in as I began to realize the inevitable dilemma fatherhood presented. Sometime down the road, likely within a year or so, this beautiful new baby was going to replace my other baby, the red Corvette coupe. As long as the baby was in an infant seat, the storage area behind the bucket seats worked out just fine. But what would we do when he needed a car seat?  There was no backseat, just a toddler crawl space
